DONT FORGET REFLECTIVE JOURNALS

-concepts-

Concept 1:

A short film based on the lack of interactions people make with individuals who they see everyday.  It expands on how routine; our life becomes the all important element. But do we really consider others?

The films  idea is that society is distant in the bustling towns; numerous beautiful locations. It also delves into the proposition that during your commute to work what is something you ask yourself when first seeing someone? or if you see the same person everyday why is it that we choose to purposely ignore them by not even smiling.

The film would have quick cuts of locations such as busy streets. but mainly re-visit the same street for my commute to college in the morning (as a way of illustrating how i personally become consumed with my own routine so much so that i disregard people around me).

As this is about my morning routine and how i see the same people everyday- it would be an independent task.

concept 2:

I aim to create a short film around cultural differences, featuring different places of worship such as temples, mosques; churches.  I will Learn about these places by asking questions to local people within these communities and seeing if they are willing to feature in parts of the film.  It also would have footage of food or common practices within the religion.

For this concept I would work alone in order to move around to the various locations in a time efficient manner.  The proccess would push for me to advance  my communication skills. I think this could help with my confidence as i would need to interact with strangers; have meaningful convesations in a respectful manner in places of worship.

Concept 3:

The Short film would be about me understanding my culture through the art of cooking; familly connections. It would have raw footage of conversations with parents and me learning to cook traditional dishes.  Not to mention going through photo albums and old videos from my childhood.

This requires that i work alone as its storyline is revolved around personal discovery and family interrelations.

concept 1 -

challenges my editing skills, as i would need to craft my mundane morning routine into a captivatiing film. The skill set which would help me accomplish this is my previous research on camera angles. I know that having different perspectives of the same shot (such as someone unlocking a door) would allow for views to be more immersed. I will need to play around with brightness; contrast as well as anything else in the lumeric colour panel in premier pro. Premire pro is a software which i have some background knowledge on. however i think given the opportunity to further enhance my skills would be of benefit for my future  career path in film and tv. Concept 1 - also involves working with sound effects which link in with the visuals (such as doors for diffrent locations). Sound effects is genrally one of my weak spots therfore this is another hurdle i would need to overcome. In spite of this practice from the mini fmp has higlighted that my time managment skills would allow me to meet converge deadlines.

concept 2 -

The prodominant challenge i would encounter is communicating with new individuals. I also would need to develop my editing skills if i am to  portray peoples stories in a intresting manner . I also think that the process of filming inside places of worship needs to be planned as i want to avoid  offending anyone (as a result consent forms or call sheets for appropriate filming times would need to be written out in post-production). Skills i will attain are organisation with time and coming to terms with new environments. Overall i would need to be adaptable and flexible. Although flexiabilty is an aspect i need to improve on i think soft skills like promblem solving would come at my despense.

concept 3 -

In order to put forward a concatenation of images from copious time periods i would need to ensure the film is not confusing for viewers. I also need to debate how long i would have people such as my parent talking for.  It would mean i need to balance out voice overs, visuals and personal short interviews. fortanatlly skills that assisit me is my ability to construct a story- as outlined in my scriptwriting unit. This would allow me to find ways to make my footage have meaning; purpose.

Reflective log -

After reflecting on the various concepts i can do for my fmp, I've concluded that i want to make a short film that could incorporate aspects of culture, food and social interactions or people in different locations.

Further work on some concepts :

why im interested in doing a short film and what job role i wish to aspire for?

The reason that i have taken an interest in short films is due to the fact that as a future career path i want to be involved in film/tv and plan to take a film/tv course at university as my next step. Im aware that i want to work behind the camera along with the director or surrounding team, but i still don't have a specific job role. For the fmp i want to be graded on my ability to direct being the creative lead of the film. My role would be to direct the camera to get the appropriate angles etc. However at this stage i plan to work alone therefore i would also need to embody roles like cinematographer; editor.

skills i have obtained on the course so far?

Within the unit so far i have done script writing which enables me to expand on my written skills. This could aid me when writing up my evaluation at a later stage. Not to mention the podcast unit which made me work with adobe audition to challenge my ability to edit sound; this would help my sound effects that i plan to include in the film seem more professional. Examples of sound effects i intend to include is birds; footsteps and the knocking of doors. Furthermore the game prototyping unit has constructed a growth mindset as i now can dare unfamiliar software overcoming technical difficulties; be kinder to myself if particular task take longer to master.

In addition the theories of media work provided me with the tool set to make pre-production material which is mainly what would be marked within this fmp. Finally the mini fmp gave me a taster to how my actual fmp would be. It meant i now remember to write reflective logs; plan out my time in a more scheduled manner through writing out timetables. Moreover i built upon my communicating and feedback skills by needing to take on advice from other classmates and discussions with my teachers for refining my evaluation.

-Practicing-

Reflective log:  In order to prepeare for my fmp i though it would be productive to take some footage of my local area and test out some shots using my canon camera. I then uploded this to premire pro to get a feel of how i can organise my workspace in a way that works with me. Todays practice filming went well; it has also made me ponder what additional shots i could add to the film.

Uploding work on usb stick.

20/02/2023 Reflective log -

Today i completed further work on my concepts for the short film; skills i already have to aid me in my project. I also uploaded additional footage that i shot from my phone over the half term into my drive. I then later plan to start exporting some of this into premier pro.

https://youtu.be/X-cfSrlomlM  (the problem with the lack of communication in society) short film

The video above is a short film about "communication" in scoiety - or rather the lack of communication that individuals within the mordern genration have. It exibits a exaggerated view of how technology is consuming our lives. The video is inspirational for me as I can take certain aspects such as the demonstration of people walking fixated to their phone, and find ways to incorporate it within my short film. Personally my film would also ilistrate other things but I do intend to have this message that society is becoming more distant. I think this short film in particular is effective in terms of the additional sound effects (like the tapping of screens and buttons) - to aid in captivating viewers attention.

Additional text pop-ups where also evoke how activly talking to someone is becoming less common - and now people communicate feelings via text message. Now even though the film could have visaully demonstrated this to us, I see that this further places emphaise on their point; allows for the viewers to be less confused. Therfore in my own film I could use Premire-Pros effects to edit text and have occasional pop-up messages as well.

"The Art of Communication" also has the same moral meaning about how technology and people in gernal are becoming more distant. However it takes a animated approach to portray the two protagnist. I think the concept of centering the stroy around two individuals but also showing their surroundings allows for the audince to be more engaged with the story. The short film decides to have no verbal communication, and rather uses facial expressions; a slow paced piano as background music. This film represented how I can have a instrumental backing track, but also add a twist by giving short voice overs inbetween(whislt adding in pop-up text). I might also consider using re-ucorring actors in the film to provide a sense of familliariy for my viewers.
